MPIRE Properties donated 219 smoke detectors to the sixth grade students in Great Bend, just in time for Fire Prevention Week.
“We do property inspections all the time, helping our tenants stay safe in their homes with the proper number and placement of smoke detectors,” says Rick Davis, COO. “I’ve seen firsthand how quickly a fire can start and escalate out of control, so this is our way of not only educating kids on the importance of fire safety, but also possibly saving a life at some point in the future.”
Davis, along with business partners Jason Mayers, CEO and Alan Burton, CFO met with the City of Great Bend’s Fire Inspector Mark Orth and USD 428’s Assistant Superintendent Khris Thexton to present the 219 smoke detectors. The fire department and school district will work to distribute the life-saving devices to every 6th grade student in the district next week during special Fire Prevention Week assemblies. Along with the smoke detector, every student will receive a refrigerator magnet featuring a customizable grid so their family can draw their fire escape plan and have quick access to emergency telephone numbers.
